UML asks EC to review Maoist election symbol

KATHMANDU, July 20 – Asking for a review on the allocation of the ‘hammer-and-sickle’ symbol to the CPN-M for the upcoming CA elections, the CPN-UML Friday approached the Election Commission (EC).The commission had allocated the ‘hammer-and-sickle’ symbol to the CPN-M on Sunday for the elections slated for November 22.
The UML had written to the commission regarding the issue on Thursday.
The UML representatives today met with Chief Election Commissioner Bhoj Raj Pokhrel to urge the commission to review the decision of allocating the symbol to the Maoists.
Stating that the ‘hammer-and-sickle’ is predominantly used by most of the communist parties worldwide as their symbol in their flags, the CPN-UML told the EC that the symbol should not be allocated to any particular party as an election symbol. Continue reading ‘uml ask ec’
